The Story

You saved them. They buried you.

Raven Bloodletter was once Al'Dainia's greatest wizard and the last surviving Blood Mage of his lineage. When the necromancer Gorgamon threatened the kingdom, Raven used forbidden Blood Magic to defeat him and save Al'Dainia. Raven won. The kingdom survived.

But the people Raven saved feared the power he had used. Instead of honoring their savior, the rulers of Al'Dainia condemned him. They stripped him of his power, buried him in the deepest prison beneath the kingdom, and attempted to erase his name from history.

Years later, Gorgamon's curse begins to return. The prison stirs. The dead rise. Ancient seals break. Raven awakens in chains at the bottom of the prison, weakened but alive — and his forbidden Blood Magic begins answering him again. He must escape upward through the dungeon, recover his lost power, and confront the first returning manifestation of the evil he once defeated. The kingdom betrayed Raven. Now that same kingdom needs him again.

Gameplay

First-Person Dungeon Combat

Blood Mage is a real-time first-person dark-fantasy dungeon crawler built in GameMaker, drawing from the classic tradition of Ultima Underworld and Heretic. Navigate connected dungeon areas, battle enemies in fluid real-time combat, and manage a full survival resource system.

Real-Time FPS Combat

Fight undead creatures, cultists, and corrupted beasts in fluid first-person combat. Melee, ranged, and Blood Magic attacks — each with distinct timing and resource costs.

Blood Magic System

Recover Raven's forbidden Blood Magic as you climb. Raven can also sacrifice part of his health to restore mana when magical power is urgently needed — a dangerous but necessary choice.

Connected Dungeon Exploration

Navigate approximately 12 connected areas — part prison, part ancient seal, part corrupted fortress. Unlock gates, discover secret passages, find hidden rooms, and avoid deadly traps.

Survival Resource System

Track health, mana, and stamina. Food and water survival systems are planned as part of the dungeon design. Potions and items are stored in inventory. Searchable corpses and containers reward exploration.

Keys, Locks & Sealed Gates

Red, blue, and gold keys unlock specific gates. Magically sealed doors require the Scroll of Opening. Some secrets are hidden behind walls that only Torch Vision can reveal.

NPC Encounters

The dungeon is not empty. Speak with dying prisoners, old guards, cursed spirits, cult defectors, and hidden merchants. They reveal Raven's history, the kingdom's guilt, and the truth beneath Al'Dainia.

Blood Magic

Power at a Price

Blood Magic is the forbidden art Raven used to save Al'Dainia — and the reason they buried him. As he climbs through the dungeon, his lost powers begin returning. Raven can also sacrifice part of his own health to restore mana when magical power is urgently needed. Exact costs, damage, and acquisition points remain in development.

Blood Bolt

Mana

Raven's first returning Blood Magic attack. A fast basic ranged projectile made from concentrated blood energy — his first reliable magical attack after awakening.

Bone Wand

Mana

An accurate ranged magical weapon connected to old Blood Mage remains and crypt corruption. Intended for more precise ranged attacks.

Sanguine Staff

Mana

A stronger Blood Magic focus recovered later in Episode 1. Represents Raven recovering a greater portion of his forbidden power.

Skull Flame

Mana

A destructive cursed magical attack connected to the Bone Crypts and Gorgamon's corruption. A powerful crowd-pressure attack.

Blood Storm

Mana

A rare late-Episode-1 Blood Magic power awakened near the final confrontation. One of Raven's strongest Episode 1 abilities.

Crimson Dagger

None

A close-range ritual blade turned against Raven's captors and the creatures inside the dungeon. The close-range backup weapon — no mana or ammunition required.

Weapon and spell details — including damage, mana costs, animations, and final acquisition points — remain in development.

The Dungeon

Twelve Connected Areas. One Way Out.

The dungeon is not a collection of unrelated stages. It is one connected location — part prison, part ancient seal, part corrupted fortress. Episode 1 begins at the bottom and follows Raven as he climbs upward toward freedom.

Areas 1–4

The Prison Depths

The Wake Cell, The Lower Chains, The Old Cistern, and The Bone Crypts. Raven awakens in chains, finds his first returning Blood Magic, encounters prisoners who still know him by legend, and discovers that the dungeon was built over something far more ancient.

Areas 5–8

The Corruption Spreads

The Blood Halls, The Red Chapel, The Hidden Hold, and The Beast Warrens. Blood rites and cursed symbols appear throughout the dungeon. Raven recovers stronger Blood Magic, finds survivors and hidden merchants, and faces increasing pressure from beasts and ambush enemies.

Areas 9–12

The Final Ascent

The Sealed Archive, The Upper Bastille, The Gate of Veins, and Gorgamon's Seal. Raven learns the dungeon was built to hide old truths. The final sealed path tests everything he has recovered. The last confrontation with Gorgamon's returning manifestation — and escape into Al'Dainia.
